Is this Black Sea Anchovy (Hamsi) delivered fresh or frozen?
Always 100% fresh and chilled! Unlike most anchovies found in international supermarkets, our Hamsi is never previously frozen. It is transported under strict cold chain controls to ensure it reaches your doorstep in pristine, dock-fresh condition.
How many people does a 4kg pack of Hamsi serve?
A 4kg bulk pack is very generous! It is perfect for hosting a large family gathering or a traditional Turkish seafood night, comfortably serving 6 to 8 adults depending on the recipe.
Can I freeze the fresh anchovies?
Yes, absolutely. Since our Hamsi has never been frozen, you can easily divide the 4kg pack into smaller family-sized portions, seal them in air-tight freezer bags, and keep them in your home freezer to enjoy fresh-tasting Hamsi whenever you crave it.
What is the classic way to cook Black Sea Hamsi?
The absolute classic is 'Hamsi Tava': lightly coat the cleaned anchovies in yellow cornmeal (mısır unu) with a pinch of salt, arrange them in a circular fan pattern in a shallow frying pan with a drizzle of sunflower oil, and fry until golden brown and beautifully crispy on both sides. Serve hot with a fresh rocket and red onion salad.
Anchovies are quick to cook and taste best when simple methods are used to highlight their natural flavor. Here is how to prepare a traditional feast:
The Golden Pan-Fry (Hamsi Tava): If using Headed & Gutted anchovies, rinse them gently and pat them completely dry. Toss them in a bowl with yellow cornmeal (mısır unu) and a pinch of salt until lightly coated. Arrange them in a circular, flower-like pattern in a flat skillet with a shallow layer of hot sunflower or olive oil. Fry for 3–4 minutes until crisp, flip the entire wheel using a flat plate or lid, and crisp the other side for 2 minutes. Serve hot with rocket leaves, red onions, and lemon wedges.
Light Oven Buğulama (Baked Anchovies): Arrange the cleaned anchovies in a baking dish. Layer thin slices of tomatoes, onions, lemons, and bay leaves on top. Drizzle with premium olive oil and bake at 180°C for 15–18 minutes for a juicy, lighter alternative.
At Seafood Xpress, culinary quality and product integrity are our top priorities. Anchovies are among the most delicate fish in the ocean.
Pre-cleaning or removing the heads before transit exposes the tender white meat, making it highly vulnerable to bruising and softening during delivery. By shipping them 100% Whole & Natural, the fish acts as its own natural shield. This ensures that when you open your 4kg pack in your kitchen, every single anchovy is as firm, bright, and perfectly preserved as the moment it was caught.
A 4kg pack is a true winter highlight! Since everything from Seafood Xpress arrives strictly fresh and has never been previously frozen, you can easily plan for future meals:
In the Fridge: Keep the box in the coldest part of your fridge and enjoy within 48 hours.
In the Freezer: If you want to store them for the season, we recommend cleaning the anchovies first (removing heads/guts), dividing them into 500g or 1kg batches, and packing them tightly in airtight freezer bags. They will stay perfect in your home freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw slowly in the fridge overnight before cooking.
